The National Scholastic Surfing Association brings Event #4 of its 2026–27 Southwest Conference Open Season to Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point on October 31–November 1, 2026. NSSA describes Open Season as its highest level of regional competition and limits it to student surfers. All 11 current division products expose an available Event #4 Salt Creek variant: Men’s, Juniors, Longboard, Boys, Mini Grom, U10 Boys, Women’s, Girls, Super Girls, Mini Grom Girls and U10 Girls. Most divisions cost $145; Mini Grom and Mini Grom Girls cost $125; U10 Boys and U10 Girls cost $115. Current NSSA membership is separate and required. The regular entry deadline is Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 PM Pacific. After that, NSSA says late entry may cost more and is accepted only if space remains, so disappearance of ordinary checkout must not be treated automatically as closure. Competitors must physically surf five of the seven Southwest Open events to qualify for the 2027 West Coast Championships, subject to the organizer’s published make-up rules. Spectating from the public beach is free; OC Parks currently charges $1 per hour for pay-and-display parking. Exact contest-bank placement, daily first call, heat draws, check-in and awards timing remain unpublished. NSSA may move dates or locations for surf, weather or operations, so entrants should recheck the live schedule and organizer social before travel.
At a glance
Open Season is NSSA’s highest regional level and is open to student surfers who hold current NSSA membership. It is not described as invitation-only. Current 2026–27 shop divisions use age cutoffs as of January 1, 2027. West Coast Championships qualification requires physically surfing five of the seven Southwest Open events, subject to published make-up rules.
