NSSA Southwest Open Event #4 — Salt Creek, Dana Point 2026
About this event
The National Scholastic Surfing Association brings Event #4 of its 2026–27 Southwest Conference Open Season to Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point on October 31–November 1, 2026. NSSA describes Open Season as its highest level of regional competition and limits it to student surfers. All 11 current division products expose an available Event #4 Salt Creek variant: Men’s, Juniors, Longboard, Boys, Mini Grom, U10 Boys, Women’s, Girls, Super Girls, Mini Grom Girls and U10 Girls. After the regular deadline, all 11 Event #4 variants still expose available checkout inventory at late-entry pricing: Men’s, Juniors, Longboard, Boys, Women’s, Girls and Super Girls are $170; Mini Grom and Mini Grom Girls are $145; U10 Boys is $130; and U10 Girls is $115. Current NSSA membership is separate and required. The regular entry deadline passed Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 PM Pacific. NSSA says late entry costs more and is accepted only if space remains; on October 30 all 11 exact Event #4 variants still returned available=true, so the current late-entry path is open but capacity is not disclosed. Competitors must physically surf five of the seven Southwest Open events to qualify for the 2027 West Coast Championships, subject to the organizer’s published make-up rules. Spectating from the public beach is free; OC Parks currently charges $1 per hour for pay-and-display parking. The exact LiveHeats draw is now published for Saturday, October 31: first call is 7:00 AM and the final listed heat starts at 5:20 PM. It lists 27 Open Men, 30 Open Juniors U16 and 13 Open Boys U14. NSSA’s master calendar still reserves October 31–November 1, while the exact LiveHeats event currently names October 31 only and publishes no Sunday program, finals or awards time; competitors should follow LiveHeats for changes. NSSA may move dates or locations for surf, weather or operations, so entrants should recheck the live schedule and organizer social before travel.

Open Season is NSSA’s highest regional level and is open to student surfers who hold current NSSA membership. It is not described as invitation-only. Current 2026–27 shop divisions use age cutoffs as of January 1, 2027. West Coast Championships qualification requires physically surfing five of the seven Southwest Open events, subject to published make-up rules.
