About this event
The Scholastic Surf Series brings its 2026-27 Los Angeles-Santa Barbara Middle School schedule to Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura on Saturday, November 14, 2026. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association. Unlike the high-school program, this middle-school stop uses individual advancement heats while maintaining both individual and team season rankings. The current team-entry packet allocates 14 competition spots per LA-Santa Barbara middle-school team: six boys shortboard, three boys longboard, two girls shortboard, two girls longboard and one bodyboard. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 6-8 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete the student registration, waiver and emergency-medical process after coach approval. Registration for the 2026-27 season opened August 1; division forms and fees are due September 21. The organizer lists an $85 student membership and a $2,600 LA-Santa Barbara Middle School team fee, while each team sets the amount charged to individual surfers and may add processing or team costs, so families should confirm their final price and roster status with the coach. The carryover SSS judging guide describes 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style judging criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. Regular-season individual finalists receive medals, while end-of-season individual and team finalists receive plaques. The official schedule confirms Emma Wood and the November 14 date, but it has not published the exact contest tower or beach access, check-in time, first heat, division heat times or contestant roster. California State Parks identifies separate North Beach and Ventura River Group Camp areas; SSS has not stated which access it will use. The current park notice says North Beach day use remains closed until construction is complete, so do not route to that entrance without updated organizer or park guidance. State Parks lists parkwide hours of 7 a.m. to sunset and a $10 vehicle day-use fee, but event-specific parking, access and spectator arrangements remain unannounced.
