About this event
Santa Sunday is one of Sunday River's most beloved traditions and its signature early-season charity ski/ride event. On Sunday, December 13, 2026, 300+ pre-registered participants arrive in full Santa attire - a red Santa hat with white pompom, red Santa jacket, red Santa pants, and a Santa beard - for a slopeside group photoshoot at 11:00 AM at South Ridge, then ride South Ridge Express and ski down Broadway (a beginner-friendly green trail) together in a wave of red and white. What began as an early-season marketing stunt has become a cultural event that raises thousands of dollars for The River Fund Maine. Registration for the 2026 edition opens on Giving Tuesday (December 1, 2026); each registered Santa receives a buddy lift voucher (valid December 14, 2026 - January 31, 2027, excluding Saturdays and vacation weeks). Spectators are free to watch and should reach South Ridge by 11:00 AM for the best view.
At a glance
Open to the public; 300+ participants register each year and must arrive in the full required Santa costume. The group lap goes down Broadway, a beginner-friendly green trail, so all ability levels can take part.
