Winter Break Skate Camp at Volcom Skatepark — Costa Mesa 2026
About this event
Skate Coastal’s two-week Winter Break Skate Camp brings youth skateboarding, inline skating and roller skating to Costa Mesa’s Volcom Skatepark on eight Monday-through-Thursday dates: December 21–24 and December 28–31, 2026. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday sessions run 9:00 AM–12:00 PM PST; Tuesday sessions shift to 11:00 AM–2:00 PM because the City cleans the park that morning. The current organizer flyer and exact Sawyer activity welcome ages 5–12 at every skill level and price enrollment at $275 per week. Sawyer lists a 25-student capacity, a 5% sibling discount for each additional child and a live Register path that redirects signed-out users to account creation. The organizer’s October 27 caption also advertises code Winterbreak for $25 off any camp week “this week only,” without an exact cutoff time, so families should verify acceptance at checkout rather than rely on the promotion. Coaches divide students by skill level with a published maximum 6:1 student-to-coach ratio. Sessions begin with warm-ups and a safety/gear check, then mix instruction, games, free-skate time and mini-challenges. Beginners work on stance, balance, pushing, turning and stopping; progressing riders may work toward kickturns, drop-ins, ollies and other park skills at their own pace. Participants must bring a skateboard, roller skates or inline skates plus a certified skate helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards; Skate Coastal’s FAQ says board and full safety-gear rentals can be arranged, with full safety gear currently listed at $25 per camp week. Pack water and snacks. The organizer advertises a Thursday pizza party at the end of each camp week but does not publish allergy, portion or dietary-accommodation details. An optional on-site abstract-art extension runs 12:00–1:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and 2:00–3:00 PM Tuesday; the public activity does not publish its price or selection flow. Enrollment is nonrefundable; for an emergency, the organizer says it is happy to apply credit to another program. For rain or unsafe outdoor conditions, Skate Coastal says it moves to a covered or indoor skate location when available or reschedules and communicates by email and text; makeups are offered for weather or illness when coordinated in advance. The City says the 15,000-square-foot skatepark has street elements, a kidney-shaped pool and a bowl, allows skateboards and inline/roller skates, prohibits BMX bikes and scooters, requires helmets and full knee/elbow pads, and is closed Tuesday 7:30–11:00 AM for maintenance. The generic City page also says no lessons and no spectators are permitted inside the skating area; because the current organizer-operated Sawyer listing is live, families should follow camp check-in instructions and confirm caregiver observation or access questions directly with Skate Coastal. No standalone participant waiver, guardian check-in/drop-off procedure, late-pickup rule, remaining-seat count, waitlist process, adaptive-equipment plan or event-reserved parking plan is published.
