About this event

The 2027 NSSA Interscholastic State Championships bring California's College, High School and Middle School team competition to Seaside Reef in Cardiff-by-the-Sea from Friday, March 5 through Sunday, March 7, 2027. The current first-party championship calendar and NSSA important-information notice independently confirm the three-day Seaside Reef occurrence and state that championship dates remain subject to change. This is a school-team championship rather than open public walk-up entry. Under the current 2026–27 NSSA rulebook, competitors must hold current NSSA membership, be enrolled in and attending the participating institution, meet academic requirements and belong to a recognized team in good standing. College and High School varsity teams are composed of four male surfers, two female surfers, one male longboarder and one female longboarder; High School junior varsity and Middle School teams use six male surfers, two female surfers and one longboarder of either gender. Limited exceptions for private, independent-study, home-school or students whose public school has no surf program require written school approval under the rulebook. The rulebook requires at least a 2.0 GPA and the applicable full-time course load, and every coach must sign the Code of Conduct before participation. NSSA has not yet published the 2027 State Championships entry packet, fees, deadline, capacity, team qualification or invitation procedure, daily school-group assignments, first call, heat draws, check-in location, exact contest bank, awards timetable, livestream or backup plan. Registration is therefore marked not yet open—not closed—and teams should monitor the official championship and important-information pages or contact the National Office. Spectating from the public state beach does not have an announced event ticket; normal parking fees and beach rules apply. The current Encinitas visitor guide says Seaside has a large paid lot, restrooms and showers, but beach viewing crosses sand and no event-specific adaptive staging has been announced. Surf, weather, tide, water quality, permits and lifeguard direction can change the bank or daily clock, so recheck official updates before every competition day.
