Scholastic Surf Series Orange County Middle School - Oceanside South Jetty (December 2026)
About this event
The Scholastic Surf Series continues its 2026-27 Orange County Middle School Divisions 1 and 2 season at Oceanside Harbor South Jetty on Saturday, December 12, 2026. This is the third of five scheduled league stops, following North Ponto and Oceanside South Pier. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association. Middle-school contests use individual advancement heats while maintaining both individual and team season rankings. Competition categories listed in the current team packet are boys shortboard, boys longboard, girls shortboard, girls longboard and bodyboard. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 6-8 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete student registration, waiver and emergency-medical information after coach approval. Registration for the 2026-27 season opened August 1. The packet lists September 21 for most division forms and fees, but also says students may join until before the last contest when team space remains. Based on the official roster form's standard Wednesday 6:00 p.m. submission rule, coaches should treat Wednesday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m. as the planning deadline; the organizer has not yet populated this specific event in the roster selector, so athletes must confirm the actual cutoff with their coach. The organizer lists an $85 student membership plus a team fee that varies by Orange County middle-school division; schools set the amount charged to individual surfers, so families should confirm roster availability and their final price with the coach. The carryover SSS judging guide describes 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. Regular-season individual finalists receive medals; season individual and team finalists receive plaques. The official schedule confirms December 12 at Oceanside South Jetty but does not yet publish the contest peak, tower, check-in point, first heat, division heat times or accepted roster. Harbor Beach is Oceanside's largest beach immediately south of the harbor entrance; current visitor information lists both free and paid parking, restrooms, showers, lifeguard towers, the jetty and nearby harbor amenities. City harbor information also identifies parking east of the tracks, but SSS has not assigned athlete parking, a drop-off zone or a transit plan. North County Transit serves the Oceanside waterfront area, though riders should confirm board-carry rules and the final contest staging point before travel. Recheck the official schedule, roster and heat links, organizer social channels, City alerts and coach instructions before travel.
