Scholastic Surf Series Orange County Middle School - Oceanside South Pier (November 2026)
About this event
The Scholastic Surf Series continues its 2026-27 Orange County Middle School Divisions 1 and 2 contest season at Oceanside South Pier on Saturday, November 14, 2026. This is the second scheduled stop after North Ponto and the first of two Orange County middle-school dates at South Pier this season. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association. Middle-school contests use individual advancement heats while maintaining both individual and team season rankings. Competition categories listed in the current team packet are boys shortboard, boys longboard, girls shortboard, girls longboard and bodyboard. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 6-8 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete student registration, waiver and emergency-medical information after coach approval. Registration for the 2026-27 season opened August 1. The packet lists September 21 for most division forms and fees, but also says students may join until before the last contest when team space remains. The current roster portal requires coaches to submit this event roster by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11. The organizer lists an $85 student membership plus a team fee that varies by Orange County middle-school division; schools set the amount charged to individual surfers, so families should confirm roster availability and their final price with the coach. The carryover SSS judging guide describes 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. Regular-season individual finalists receive medals; season individual and team finalists receive plaques. The current official schedule confirms November 14 at Oceanside South Pier but does not yet publish the contest-tower pin, check-in point, first heat, division heat times or accepted roster. The City of Oceanside says street and lot parking are nearby, lists a beach wheelchair at Lifeguard Headquarters below the pier, and publishes current surfing-zone rules; Visit Oceanside identifies Pier View South as the contest beach south of the pier with paid parking, restrooms, showers and lifeguard service. These are venue amenities, not organizer promises. The Oceanside Transit Center is within the downtown waterfront area, but SSS has not published a transit or drop-off plan. Recheck the official schedule, roster/heat links, City beach alerts and coach instructions before travel.
