Scholastic Surf Series Orange County Middle School - South Ponto 2026

The Scholastic Surf Series opens its 2026-27 Orange County Middle School Divisions 1 and 2 season at South Ponto in Carlsbad on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The organizer originally listed North Ponto but its current first-party schedule now says South Ponto. A newly published division schedule confirms two parallel competition areas, labeled South and North, running 15-minute heats from 7:00 AM through 3:00 PM, followed by awards at 3:10 PM. The morning begins with boys shortboard, then adds girls shortboard, boys longboard, girls longboard and bodyboard before repechage and final heats in the afternoon. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 6-8 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and complete student registration, waiver and emergency-medical information after coach approval. Team rosters are due at 6:00 PM on the Wednesday before each contest, making the October 28 event-roster deadline complete; the still-live season membership portal is not walk-up entry for this occurrence. The official packet lists an $85 student membership plus a team fee that varies by division and school. Current judging guidance uses 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. South Ponto is the wide day-use beach at the south end of South Carlsbad State Beach near the Carlsbad/Encinitas line. The South Ponto lot provides accessible parking, accessible routes, restrooms and an outdoor rinse shower; a beach wheelchair is available through California State Parks.
