The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club runs the Steamboat Cup, a free, introductory-level youth competition series for kids ages 7-13, every Wednesday from January 6 through March 17, 2027 at Howelsen Hill Ski Area. Each week offers a new chance to try competing in a different snowsport discipline - alpine duals, moguls, ski jumping, freeride, and cross country - in a welcoming, low-pressure environment designed to build confidence and a love of the sport. The series is open to all kids in the community and participants do not need to be enrolled in an SSWSC program. Events run 4-6 p.m. with bib pickup starting at 3:30 p.m.; the Hitchens Brothers Ski Jumping events run longer. Registration is free but required in advance (it opens two weeks before each event and closes at 4 p.m. the day before), and there is no on-site registration.

The Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival returns February 2-7, 2027, hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club at Howelsen Hill and throughout downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Established in 1914, the carnival is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the West and honors the snow sports that define Ski Town, USA. Family events and athlete exhibitions run at Howelsen Hill through the week, while the signature Street Events on Lincoln Avenue feature children on skis and snowboards pulled behind horses down the snow-covered street (ski joring, slalom, donkey jump and dash-style events) alongside the Diamond Hitch. The Saturday-night Winter Carnival Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill showcases ski-jumping and athlete exhibitions under LED lights and flares, the Lighted Man and his pyrotechnics, a fiery hoop, and a fireworks finale. The precise 2027 daily schedule, theme, presenting sponsor, and Winter Carnival button price have not yet been published; the organizer page still displays the prior (113th, February 2026) edition details below the confirmed 2027 dates.

Open to the public; specific competitions (e.g., street events, ski-jumping exhibitions) have their own entry requirements announced closer to the event.
