About this event

The Scholastic Surf Series closes its five-stop 2026-27 Los Angeles-Santa Barbara High School regular season in Carpinteria on Sunday, January 10, 2027. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association. The high-school program begins with team-versus-team heats and then runs individual competition, maintaining team and individual season rankings. The current team-entry packet allocates 14 competition spots per LA-Santa Barbara high-school team: six boys shortboard, three boys longboard, two girls shortboard, two girls longboard and one bodyboard. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 9-12 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete the student registration, waiver and emergency-medical process after coach approval. Registration for the 2026-27 season opened August 1; the packet lists September 21 for division forms and fees. The organizer lists an $85 student membership and a $2,600 LA-Santa Barbara High School team fee, while each school sets the amount collected from its surfers and may add processing or team costs, so families should confirm the final price and roster status with the coach. The carryover SSS judging guide describes 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. The current official schedule confirms Sunday, January 10 and the venue label Carpinteria, but it does not identify the beach, tower, competition peak, check-in point, first heat, team draw, individual heat times or current contestant roster. Carpinteria is about 85 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles and is directly relevant as the finale of the organizer's Los Angeles-Santa Barbara high-school division. Carpinteria has both City and State beaches, so do not assume the State Beach address is the contest location. City sources say downtown/beach public parking is limited and generally free where posted; Carpinteria State Beach separately lists $10 vehicle day use, sunrise-to-sunset hours and accessible facilities. Those sources are travel context only until SSS publishes the exact contest site. Recheck the official schedule, roster/heat links and coach instructions before travel.
