Scholastic Surf Series LA–Santa Barbara High School — Zuma 2026

The Scholastic Surf Series opens its 2026–27 Los Angeles–Santa Barbara High School schedule at Zuma Beach in Malibu on Sunday, October 11, 2026. SSS is the school-team division of Western Surfing Association, and this regional stop begins with team-versus-team heats before individual competition. The current team-entry packet allocates 14 competition spots per LA–Santa Barbara high-school team: six boys’ shortboard, three boys’ longboard, two girls’ shortboard, two girls’ longboard and one bodyboard. Competitors must be full-time students in grades 9–12 at the school they represent, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete the required student registration, waiver and emergency-information process after coach approval. Registration for the 2026–27 season opened August 1; current division forms and fees are due September 21. The organizer lists an $85 student membership and a $2,600 LA–Santa Barbara High School team fee, while each school sets the amount collected from its surfers and may add processing or team costs, so athletes should confirm their actual price and roster status with their coach. The carryover SSS judging guide describes 15-minute heats, up to eight ridden waves and the best two wave scores counting, with WSL-style criteria and WSA rules filling any gaps. The official schedule confirms Zuma and the date, but it has not yet published the exact contest tower, check-in time, first heat, team draw, individual heat times or contestant roster. Those details must be checked on the official contest page and organizer social channels before travel. Zuma Beach is open with parking lots, restrooms, showers, daylight lifeguards, an April–October access mat and beach wheelchairs; normal beach parking rules apply. The Busch Drive/PCH underpass was still listed closed in the County’s latest June 12 update, while the beach and visitor amenities remained open.
