About this event

A Walk On Water (AWOW) brings its free, inclusive surf-therapy program to Newport Beach on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM PST. AWOW welcomes athletes with any disability, illness, or obstacle that could benefit from ocean-based surf therapy; participation is not limited to autism, there is no published minimum or maximum athlete age, and non-swimmers are accepted. The program is structured mainly for children and young adults, with trained surf instructors and safety teams, athlete chaperones, fitted wetsuits and personal-flotation-device life vests, beach activities, food, water, and a trophy celebration. Athlete families first create an Athlete/Parent account listing every participating athlete, then RSVP on the exact event page for one surf-session time per athlete plus Parent/Guardian/Guest attendance. The event page says registration opens four to six weeks before the event, but no event-specific RSVP inventory or session times were publicly exposed during the October 7 verification; the general account form is active, so registration is accurately marked not yet open rather than closed. Volunteers must create their own account and RSVP individually; minors are listed as a parent or guardian's guests. Water Safety applicants must be 18+, highly capable ocean swimmers and bring wetsuits, booties, and fins; Beach Safety applicants should be 16+; surf instructors require AWOW pre-approval. A secondary action-sports calendar places the event at 56th Street Beach, while AWOW's current first-party page names only Newport Beach, so the exact check-in point remains TBA and should be confirmed in the final RSVP instructions. Expect paid or limited beach parking and an open-sand venue. Check the exact AWOW event page before travel for registration launch, assigned surf-session time, check-in map, weather changes, and accessibility logistics.
