About this event

Breaking Barriers BMX is a free, two-session riding and mentorship program for women and girls at Whittier Narrows BMX in South El Monte. The first session runs Sunday, September 27 from 12:30 to 3:00 PM; the second runs Saturday, October 3 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. Whittier Narrows BMX presents the program with High Five BMX creator Chrissy Piper and Factory SE Racing rider Courtney Tomei, with grant support from the LA84 Foundation. It is open to women and girls of all ages and every skill level, from first-time riders through established racers. The program emphasizes BMX instruction, confidence, friendship and a positive women-led riding environment rather than competition or formal scoring. First-time riders may request loaner bikes and helmets. Girls under 18 may receive a free USA BMX membership plus a Whittier Narrows race-and-practice card through the grant-funded program; the organizer does not state an equivalent membership benefit for adult participants. The organizer’s current signup direction is to visit the Whittier Narrows BMX Facebook page and join the event page. New riders who need equipment should use the Facebook event advertisement’s information form. No standalone public form URL, capacity, equipment inventory, waitlist, waiver procedure or check-in cutoff is published, so riders should complete the Facebook process early and contact the track before traveling if they need a bike, helmet or accommodation. USA BMX’s general rider guidance calls for an approved helmet, long sleeves, long pants and flat-soled closed-toe shoes; a full-face helmet is recommended. The event is in Los Angeles County at a USA BMX track inside Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, making it a core Los Angeles-area community BMX program.
