About this event

The Del Mar Lifeguard Association hosts its first Fish Fry surf contest at Del Mar North Beach on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The live Eventbrite listing opens doors at 6:30 AM, schedules coffee and a quick briefing at 7:00 AM, lists the event from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and calls the first heat for 8:00 AM sharp. Entry is limited to lifeguards from up and down the California coast. Every heat uses a board swap: competitors draw one of six groups, then choose a board from that group. Eligible boards must be fish shapes with a swallow tail, a twin- or quad-fin setup, a maximum length of 7 feet 2 inches, and no leash. Competitors are asked to bring a board, and local shapers will provide demos. A women's division is confirmed, but additional divisions, heat lengths, judging, advancement and prize details are not published. The current checkout shows one General Admission ticket at $0.00 and says sales end soon; Eventbrite metadata puts availability through 3:59 PM PDT, but inventory can close earlier. The listing says all ages, paid parking and no refunds. Awards and an after-party follow at Culture Brewing in Solana Beach, with no exact start or end time published.
