Life Rolls On: They Will Surf Again - Huntington Beach 2026
About this event
Life Rolls On's They Will Surf Again brought adaptive surfing to Huntington City Beach on August 22, 2026. Hundreds of volunteers, athletes with physical disabilities and paralysis, and their families gathered at the Life Rolls On tents north of the pier at 6th Street and Pacific Coast Highway. The free program welcomed beginners and returning surfers, pairing confirmed athletes with trained land, transfer and in-water teams. Volunteers arrived at 6:00 AM, athletes at 7:00 AM, everyone attended an 8:00 AM mandatory safety briefing, and surfing ran from 9:00 AM until roughly 2:00 PM before cleanup. Life Rolls On supplied adaptive surfboards and beach-transfer wheelchairs; athletes brought towels and, where available, a life vest, while wetsuits were optional and not supplied. Registration is closed and an application alone did not guarantee a spot: confirmed athletes received a Humanitix ticket, with priority given to people with physical disabilities and spinal cord injuries and final selection based on capacity, safety and a mix of new and returning surfers. Spectators were explicitly invited to cheer from the beach without a published ticket requirement. The event is directly LA-area relevant: Huntington Beach is in Orange County, about 35 miles from central Los Angeles, and the 6th/PCH site has a Mobi-Mat plus accessible parking near the beachfront. A same-day report confirmed that the event occurred with hundreds of volunteers and participants. No competitive results, official replay, event parking arrangement, cancellation policy, public capacity, waiver text or guardian rule was published in the surviving event materials.
At a glance
Designed primarily for individuals with physical disabilities and paralysis. Athletes with other disabilities could be included case by case if capacity, staffing, equipment and conditions allowed. Every application was individually reviewed. The athlete FAQ says non-swimmers and people with limited or no arm use can often be accommodated, while ventilator-dependent participants may be difficult to accommodate.
