The SoCal Youth Cycling League returns to Vail Lake Resort in Temecula for Race 2 of its 2027 cross-country mountain-bike season on Saturday and Sunday, February 20-21. The first-party schedule marks the weekend confirmed, but the race flyer, daily wave schedule, course map, GPX files, callups and results have not yet been published. Race 2 is designed for registered middle- and high-school riders in good standing with their team and the league, including independent riders. Middle-school racing is open to riders in good standing without series qualification; high-school Race 2 is a regular series round with no additional qualification requirement, and high-school callups are based on Race 1 results. Published categories are girls and boys middle-school Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, plus girls and boys high-school Freshman, JV1, JV2 and Varsity. Riders must complete league registration, pay the season fee, execute required waivers with a parent or guardian when under 18, and separately register and pay for the race before competing. The live Season 19 registration page is accepting registrations, but the organizer has not yet published the Race 2 entry price, event-registration deadline, race-weekend check-in procedure or race-day signup policy. The event uses a mass-start XC circuit over mixed terrain. Typical lap counts are two laps for middle-school Levels 1-2 and high-school Freshman/JV1/JV2, and three laps for middle-school Level 3 and high-school Varsity, but Vail Lake lap counts and course details remain subject to the race flyer and weather. Official pre-riding is strongly encouraged and must follow the published pre-ride window and direction. Student racers need a non-electric multi-gear mountain bike, approved fastened helmet, working front and rear brakes, knobby tires, intact bar-end plugs and stem cap, enclosed footwear and an official number plate. The resort page asks day visitors to use the designated pool parking lot; its bike park and day-use access run dawn to dusk. Event camping is reservable by calling Vail Lake Resort at (951) 303-0173, and the league warns that this busy venue can sell out quickly. Separate spectator admission, parking charges, camping rates, food service, accessibility accommodations and a race livestream have not been announced. Vail Lake is in Riverside County and is included in the Los Angeles-area inventory as a major Inland Empire youth MTB race serving Southern California teams.

Mass-start cross-country racing on a multi-lap mixed-terrain circuit. Middle-school fields are stand-alone races with race awards but no team or season-long individual scoring. High-school Race 2 awards team and individual points toward the five-race series; high-school callups use Race 1 results. Exact Vail Lake laps, fields, waves and time cuts will be confirmed on the event flyer.

SoCal League Race 2: The Vail Lake Challenge 2027

Vail Lake Resort

SoCal Youth Cycling League has confirmed Race 3 of Season 19 for March 6–7, 2027 at Cachuma Lake Campground in Santa Barbara County. This is a two-day youth cross-country mountain-bike race weekend for registered middle-school and high-school league riders, with girls’ and boys’ fields from entry-level middle-school categories through high-school varsity. The official race listing currently confirms the weekend, location and status but has not yet published the race flyer, daily field assignments, start waves, course map, GPX files, lap counts, pit map, check-in windows or awards schedule.

Season 19 registration is live through LeagueApps. Riders can join a team or participate as an independent rider, but must complete league registration and waivers and then complete the race-specific entry when the organizer opens it. The displayed Free Agent amount is not treated here as the Race 3 fee; the race price, deadline, capacity, waitlist and on-site-registration policy remain unannounced.

Cachuma Lake Recreation Area offers camping and day-use facilities, but the race footprint, assigned entrance, team-pit area, event parking charge and any organizer camping block are still TBA. General county information currently lists tent and RV campsites, restrooms and hot showers, campground check-in at 3:00 PM and quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Those are general park policies, not race instructions, and should be rechecked before travel. Swimming and body contact with lake water are prohibited. The separately published Live Oak trail rules prohibit bikes, so visitors must not assume those paths are the race course; use only the organizer’s eventual course and pre-ride windows.

Mass-start cross-country racing on a multi-lap mixed-terrain circuit. Middle-school fields receive race awards but do not score a season-long individual series; high-school fields compete for individual and team series points. Exact Cachuma laps, fields, waves, callups and time cuts remain TBA.

Registered league riders in grades 6–12 may enter the published middle-school and high-school categories when Race 3 registration opens. Riders must be in good standing with their team and the league; independent riders are supported. No additional Race 3 qualification is published.

The organizer has not announced cash prizes. League category awards and high-school series points follow the current rulebook and forthcoming race flyer.

Results are not yet available. The league results page is linked for publication after the race.
