The 2027 Scholastic Surf Series Middle School State Championship brings the top accepted California school surf teams to 9th Street in Huntington Beach on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25. Competition begins at 7:00 AM each day. This is a team event with individual advancement: six-surfer, 15-minute heats advance 50 percent of the field, with results counting toward both individual and overall team scores. Full teams may enter 20 surfers across Boys Shortboard (9), Boys Longboard (3), Girls Shortboard (3), Girls Longboard (3) and Bodyboard (2); partial teams may enter by surfer and division. Teams must have competed in a regular-season league against other middle schools, only one team per school is accepted, and all surfers must be full-time students representing the eligible school, have joined the team before its final regular-season event, have competed in at least one event and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Full teams receive priority, then ratings; remaining slots are filled first come, first served. The official entry deadline is April 1. A full-team entry costs $1,400 and partial entry is $85 per surfer per division. Non-SSS teams must submit the online student membership, waiver and emergency-medical form for every surfer; optional event accident insurance is an additional $10 per non-member student. Once accepted, teams receive no refund; teams not selected are due a refund within four weeks of the contest date. Division start times are scheduled for release on the Wednesday before competition, and coaches check in with the Beach Marshal on arrival. Shortboards may be no longer than 7 ft 6 in; longboards must be at least 3 ft longer than the surfer is tall; bodyboards must be within 2 in above or below the belly button; SUPs and Beater-style boards are not accepted. Free first-come coach heats in shortboard and longboard are planned at the registration table. The organizer lists May 8-9 at Oceanside Harbor South Jetty as backup dates because of major changes to the Oceanside Harbor dredge schedule, so teams and spectators should recheck the official page before travel. Public beach spectating is expected, but no separate ticket, spectator zone, livestream, exact daily finish time, heat draw, event capacity, parking validation or detailed weather cancellation threshold is published.
