SoCal Shredfest — 2027 SoCal Youth Cycling Season Opener
About this event
SoCal Shredfest is the season-opening event of the 2027 SoCal Youth Cycling race season, set for Saturday, October 17, 2026 at SkyPark Bike Park inside SkyPark at Santa's Village in Skyforest, high in the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead (San Bernardino County / Inland Empire, roughly 80 miles east of downtown Los Angeles via I-10 and the Rim of the World Highway / CA-18). SoCal Youth Cycling — "The SoCal League" (legally the SoCal High School Cycling League, a 501(c)(3) founded in 2008 and headquartered in Newbury Park) — is one of the founding-era interscholastic mountain-bike leagues in the United States, now operating independently with nearly two decades of history, more than 700 active coaches, and middle-school and high-school teams spread across Southern California. Shredfest is the pre-season kickoff that opens the 2027 campaign before the points-scoring race weekends begin in the new year, and it uses SkyPark's purpose-built lift-and-shuttle-served bike park — a network of flow, cross-country and gravity trails carved through an alpine forest of cedars and pines — as a gathering point for the league's student-athletes, coaches and families to launch the season together. The 2027 SoCal Youth Cycling schedule then runs Race 1 "Beach to Boulders" at Lake Perris SRA (Feb 6–7, 2027), Race 2 "The Vail Lake Challenge" at Vail Lake Resort in Temecula (Feb 20–21), Race 3 at Cachuma Lake Campground (Mar 6–7), Race 4 "Victory at Vail" back at Vail Lake (Mar 20–21), Race 5 "Finals" at the Keyesville BLM Recreation Area (Apr 3–4), and the State Championships in Tehachapi (date TBD). Participation is team-based: student-athletes join a registered SoCal Youth Cycling team under a licensed head coach and race in grade- and gender-based middle-school and high-school categories (from 6th-grade beginners up through Varsity), with the league's emphasis firmly on inclusion, camaraderie, skill development and fun rather than elite selection — every rider has a place and nobody rides the bench. Because the event is hosted at a paid-admission private bike park, everyone attending SkyPark needs a SkyPark Day Ticket or Annual Pass, and riding the bike-park trails/race series requires SkyPark's MTB Race Pass in addition to league membership. Exact Shredfest day-of details for 2026 — the run of show, start times, the specific on-mountain format, and the event flyer/waiver — had not yet been posted on the league's race page at the time of listing and are expected closer to the date.
At a glance
Open to registered SoCal Youth Cycling student-athletes — middle-school (grades 6–8) and high-school riders on league teams, racing in grade- and gender-based categories. The league motto is that everyone is welcome, nobody rides the bench, and families are invited to participate.
