About this event

Teton Gravity Research brings its 31st annual ski-and-snowboard film, “Actually, It Is Rocket Science,” to Orange County as part of the 2026 Coast Film & Music Festival in Laguna Beach. The film — TGR's flagship for the 2026/27 winter — takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the calculation and instinct behind elite big-mountain skiing and snowboarding, following 28 athletes across the Alaska Range out of Haines, the volcanic peaks of Japan, the granite walls of British Columbia, the Arctic light of Finland, the Pyrenean valleys of Andorra, Jay Peak in Vermont, and the Tetons around Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It world-premiered September 19, 2026 in Jackson Hole before launching a 200-plus-stop global tour, and this Laguna Beach screening is its Southern California / Orange County stop, listed by TGR's tour calendar for October 22, 2026 inside the Coast Film & Music Festival (October 16–25, 2026). Coast is Laguna Beach's adventure and action-sports film festival, with screenings centered on the Forum Theater at the Festival of Arts grounds (650 Laguna Canyon Road) and the Rivian South Coast Theater. Admission is through Coast Film & Music Festival passes and tickets (sold via Eventive); as of research the festival had not yet published the exact screen, showtime, or a standalone per-film ticket price for the TGR screening, so those details are treated as pending. This is an in-person premiere/screening event — a spectator experience celebrating the season's marquee ski and snowboard film, not a competition — and is the nearest big-billing TGR ski/snowboard premiere to core Los Angeles for the 2026/27 season alongside the film's separate Los Angeles showing at Ski Dazzle.
