WindanSea The Menehune Junior Surf Contest 2026

WindanSea Surf Club's 34th edition of The Menehune is a one-day junior surf contest at La Jolla Shores for boys and girls age 16 and younger, with shortboard and longboard divisions plus Super Menehunes. The 2026 program is now fully seeded on the organizer-linked NetSportMgt board across North Peak and South Peak. Check-in for competitors in the first two heats starts at 6:30 AM Saturday, October 3; North Peak begins at 7:00 AM, South Peak's first competitive heat begins at 7:30 AM, and all listed heats are 15 minutes. South Peak finishes its listed program with Super Menehunes finals at noon and 12:15 PM; North Peak takes a noon break, begins finals at 12:30 PM and lists its last final at 3:15 PM, ending about 3:30 PM. Registered competitors also receive a pre-contest pizza party Friday, October 2 from 5:00-7:00 PM at La Jolla Recreation Center, 615 Prospect Street. Registration is closed after the September 25 deadline, although the organizer's entry packet says $90 late or beach entry may be accepted only if space remains and without guaranteed shirt or goodie bag. Every entrant needs the current 2026 hold-harmless agreement signed by the participant and a parent or guardian. Spectating at the public beach has no published admission charge. La Jolla Shores is roughly 115 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and is retained as a major regional youth-surf event. As of an October 2, 2026 event-eve re-verification, the official contest page still says registration is closed, the organizer-linked live board still lists 13 divisions and the same two-peak 15-minute heat schedule, the Friday pizza party remains 5:00-7:00 PM at La Jolla Recreation Center, and no cancellation, postponement, venue change or revised running order is posted; competitors should nevertheless recheck the live board because surf conditions can change operations.

Open to boys and girls who are age 16 or younger on October 3, 2026. The official poster says open to all surfers age 16 and under; the waiver requires entrants or their guardians to determine that the competitor is experienced, trained and physically capable for the ocean conditions at the time of the heat.
