A Great Day in the Stoke 2026

The fifth annual A Great Day in the Stoke brings the world’s largest gathering of Black surfers back to Huntington Beach on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The current first-party event footprint is on the sand between Lifeguard Towers 3 and 5, directly behind Huntington Beach Lifeguard Headquarters. The day combines a seven-division surf competition with free public programming: beginner surf lessons, a lululemon 5K walk/run, all-levels beach yoga, Double Dutch lessons and competition, a vendor village, live music and DJ programming, raffles, community and nonprofit activations, and awards. Surf competition entry was $40 per competitor in one division through LiveHeats and is now closed; the final division field and entry counts are published there. Eventeny offers separate $0 reservations for the free surf lessons, 5K, yoga and Double Dutch activities. Spectating is free. The event centers surfers from across the African diaspora, welcomes BIPOC communities and allies, and is family-friendly. Surf-contest entry is now closed. At the October 9 event-eve check, LiveHeats showed 68 competitors: Men's Shortboard, Men's Longboard and Women's Longboard filled; Beginners closed with four of eight places, Women's Shortboard closed with nine of 12, Boys Grom closed with five of six, and Legends closed with six entries. Eventeny general admission, the 5K, yoga and Double Dutch remained listed at $0, while free surf-lesson sales had ended. The organizer also confirmed the awards ceremony and Wave Blazer presentation for 3:15 PM.
