About this event

The 2027 NSSA National Championships bring the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s season-crowning Open, Explorer and Airshow competition to Huntington Beach Pier from Saturday, June 26 through Saturday, July 3, 2027. The current official championship calendar separates the week into the National Explorer Championships on June 26–28 and the National Open plus National Airshow Championships on June 29–July 3; all dates remain subject to change. This is an elite amateur championship rather than open walk-up entry. The current 2026–27 rulebook says surfers who compete in their Regional Championships qualify to register for Nationals only in the divisions they entered at Regionals, and all qualifying members must attend Regionals unless the NSSA Executive Director approves a documented exception. Competitors must also satisfy NSSA academic rules. Current Open divisions range from U10 through all-ages Mens, Womens and Longboard; Explorer divisions range from U11 through all-ages, longboard and adult Masters, Seniors, Super Seniors and Duke brackets. The Airshow crowns aerial surfing champions. NSSA has not yet published the 2027 Nationals entry form, fees, deadline, capacity, daily call times, heat draws, check-in location, exact north/south pier bank, awards schedule, webcast or backup plan. Registration is therefore marked not yet open—not closed—and qualified surfers should monitor the official dates page, important-information page and National Office. Late entrants may be seeded after the deadline only if space remains under the current rulebook. Spectating from the public city beach and pier does not have an announced event ticket; normal parking costs and beach rules apply. The pier is paved and accessible, while shoreline access across sand varies. Because surf, weather, water quality, permits and lifeguard operations can move the bank or daily clock, recheck NSSA and local conditions before every competition day.
