About this event
USA Surfing Prime West Stop #3 returns to the Huntington Beach Pier in the heart of Orange County's Surf City USA on February 6-7, 2027 — the third West Coast stop of the 2026/27 USA Surfing Prime Series. The Prime Series is the elite amateur pathway run by USA Surfing, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee-recognized national governing body for the sport (recognized in turn by the International Surfing Association, the IOC's world authority for surfing). Prime is invitation-only: only the top-ranked American youth surfers earn a spot, and it is the proving ground for the country's next generation — Prime alumni include 2024 Olympic gold medalist Caroline Marks, WSL world champion Caity Simmers, and Olympians Griffin Colapinto and Kolohe Andino. This shortboard event is contested across six age divisions — Boys and Girls Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 — with heats run and judged on USA Surfing's official Liveheats scoring platform. It is the third of four West Coast stops in the 2026/27 season (Stop #1 Santa Cruz, Oct 3-4 2026; Stop #2 Pismo Beach, Nov 21-22 2026; Stop #3 Huntington Beach, Feb 6-7 2027; Stop #4 Oceanside, Mar 6-7 2027), and results feed the Prime West season rankings that help decide invitations to the USA Surfing Championships and national-team selection. The Huntington Beach Pier is a free, fully public beach break, so spectating from the sand or the pier is open to everyone. This is an upcoming, invitation-only event: entry is set by USA Surfing ranking (not open public sign-up) and the entry window on Liveheats closes Saturday, January 30, 2027 at 11:55 PM PST. Exact daily start and finals times shift with tide, swell and heat progression and will be published on the official Liveheats event page.
