About this event
The 2027 Scholastic Surf Series High School State Championships bring qualified school surf teams and individual competitors to Oceanside Harbor South Jetty for three mornings of championship surfing. The current first-party plan is Coastal Section team championships on Saturday, March 20, Inland Section team championships on Sunday, March 21, and individual championships on Monday, March 22. Competition begins at 7:00 a.m. each day. Because the Oceanside Harbor dredging schedule may affect the beach, SSS has also reserved April 24-26 as backup dates; the organizer has not activated those dates, so March 20-22 remain the primary schedule. Team days use head-to-head school competition across men's shortboard, men's longboard, women's shortboard, women's longboard and co-ed bodyboard, with separate division champions plus an overall team winner. Coastal and Inland sections each have a 12-team limit. Full coastal teams list 20 roster spots and a $1,300 entry fee; full inland teams list 17 spots and a $1,100 fee, with published partial-division options. The Monday individual championship uses six-person heats, 50 percent advancement, 15-minute heats and the best two waves scored, at $85 per surfer per division. Team competitors must come from a school that competed in a regular-season high-school league, and each surfer must have joined the team before its final series event and surfed at least one event. Individual competitors likewise must belong to a surf-league team before its final event. Entries are due March 1, 2027. Individual entry is currently linked to the live championship registration portal and is first-come until slots fill; late entries may be waitlisted and refunded if they do not clear. The official team-registration page is published for coaches, but its embedded athlete selector was not visible in controlled Chrome on September 14, so coaches should contact SSS before assuming submission is complete. Final brackets, accepted rosters and heat schedules are not yet posted; SSS says schedules will appear three days before competition and accepted individual rosters one week before. The City of Oceanside describes Harbor Beach as a lifeguarded beach with restrooms, showers, picnic areas and nearby free and paid parking. These are public-site amenities, not organizer guarantees. Recheck the official championship page, registration pages, organizer social channels, harbor conditions and coach instructions before travel, especially for a dredging-related move to the April backup dates.
At a glance
Teams must have competed in a regular-season league against other high schools. A surfer must have joined the team before its last series event and surfed at least one event. Individual entrants must be members of a surf-league team before that league's final event. The Competition Director decides Coastal versus Inland section designation; only one team per school is accepted.
