The Lexus Trestles Pro is the World Surf League Championship Tour’s marquee stop in the United States, held at Lower Trestles — the near-perfect cobblestone A-frame tucked inside San Onofre State Beach at the north end of San Clemente and widely regarded as America’s most high-performance wave. The 2026 edition, Stop No. 9 of the WSL Championship Tour, runs across a September 11–20 waiting period as the final regular-season event of the tour’s 50th-anniversary season, with the men’s and women’s world’s best chasing critical results before the postseason cut. Competition is professional: through the first nine events the regular-season fields number 36 men and 24 women, and Lower Trestles is the last chance to climb the rankings — only the top 24 men and top 16 women advance to the two postseason showdowns in Abu Dhabi and Portugal before a season-ending Pipe Masters decides the World Titles. Under the WSL’s updated 2026 formats, non-elimination rounds have been removed, so every heat at Trestles carries direct consequences, with two-best-wave heat totals (each ride scored 0–10 by the judging panel) building through the rounds to the Final. Heading in, the World Title race was shaken up by season-salvaging wins from Erin Brooks and Cole Houshmand; the 2025 Trestles winners were Yago Dora (men) and Bettylou Sakura Johnson (women). The event is free and open to all ages with no ticket required — fans watch from the cobblestones after walking, biking, or skating in from Cristianitos Road via the San Onofre State Beach trail — and it streams live on worldsurfleague.com and the WSL app September 11–20.
